Insurance matters are always in a state of flux. Today we offer some tips for gringos and expats looking to buy into a first-world style Latin healthcare insurance policies. Yes, there are some very very good and amazingly inexpensive policies out there but it’s a minefield and you really have to know what you are doing and how to suss them out, since virtually all the administrators speak Spanish and naturally the paperwork is presented in Spanish. Because “private” health insurance is a relatively new concept in Latin America, gringos and expats soon find out it’s not much like shopping for health insurance in the states. Oh, and there’s an odd assumption (and it’s not money)all Latin insurance brokers have about gringos that must be dispelled right away…
